Holy, rumor has it that Fable 5.5 is coming next week. If OpenAI doesn't have an answer to that, things will get very difficult! Caveat: I can't verify any of this.
Craziest IPO ever: Anthropic has filed for an IPO that could value the company at more than $2 trillion, but warns in the same prospect for "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity." Reuters reviewed the prospectus. Key 2025 figures: - Revenue: ~$4.6B, up roughly 12x - Operating loss: $8.06B - Net loss: ~$42B, including a ~$34B non-cash accounting charge - Compute and infrastructure spending: $7.33B - Cash, equivalents and short-term investments: $20.28B at year-end The newer 2026 numbers show how quickly the business has grown: - Q2 revenue: ~$11.5B, up roughly 14x YoY - ARR: reportedly $65B+ by late July - Positive adjusted operating income in Q2, with another profitable quarter exp…

At this point its no secret anymore that tomorrow "o" (or "Aeon") will be revealed, OpenAIs always-on-agent. The hire of Peter Steinberger is going to pay off. After the events of the last few days, all eyes will be on the newest models. OpenAI held the lead for a long time, pushing Anthropic into the background. Now the tables have turned. Many rumors are circulating; we'll see what's true tomorrow. However, I think Astra will at least receive an update to demonstrate, on its most important day, that it remains the dominant player.
Anthropic has quietly built a biology lab in the Bay Area as it expands into physical experiments, Reuters reports. Its life sciences chief confirmed the wet lab. The company reportedly wants Claude to direct laboratory robots. Eric Kauderer-Abrams: "We're in the very early innings of using AI to automate the execution of lab work" Interestingly enough: "A spokesperson later clarified that Anthropic's lab is not for drug discovery specifically, declining to elaborate." This could mean that they are researching pharmaceuticals and, in addition, the fundamental principles of biology, such as aging itself. In any case, it is becoming increasingly clear, and Dario has repeatedly emphasized this…

Two months before the Hugging Face hack (!), OpenAI agents apparently turned an ordinary web research task into an agent-swarm attack on RubyGems and RubyDoc. Researchers found code execution on RubyDoc and attempts to steal RubyGems API keys. Whether the key theft succeeded is unknown. RubyGems halted new registrations for four days. According to the researchers, OpenAI had not informed RubyGems that its own agents were responsible. New attacks come to light every day.

Update on OpenAIs device: The product - essentially a smart speaker without a display - will be shaped like a doughnut that’s roughly the size of a hockey puck. The idea is to make the device easy to carry around the home with one hand. -The device will be positioned as an AI-first computer that can help users get things done -The circle-shaped device will include parts that move on their own -That will help show when it’s responding and interacting with the user -The product will have speaker grills and microphones for fielding commands and conversing with users. -The battery-powered item will be designed to work in different positions, in a user’s hand, say, or placed on a nightstand or k…
@masontgill oh, they are close!
@rezosh yes, that really makes sense. and i fully agree
Judging by all the GPT-5.6 Sol early-access posts, it sounds as though OpenAI has achieved the major leap we had been hoping for. GPT-5.6 is said to be better in every respect: eager, capable of working for long stretches, better at frontend tasks, and it essentially never gives up. In short: a significant leap that, oddly enough, carries only an iterative version number, even though the improvements would seem to point more toward GPT “6”. What is particularly interesting, however, is the fact that some testers have already had access to GPT-5.6 for months (!). Months, not weeks. That, in turn, suggests that after tomorrow’s release, the next version is already waiting in the wings. There…

Anthropic says Claude developed a hidden “thinking space” by itself during training. It is called the J-space: a small set of internal patterns that show what concepts Claude has “on its mind,” even when it never says them. Example: Claude can silently think “spider” to answer “8 legs.” If researchers replace that internal pattern with “ant,” Claude answers “6.” So this is not just chain-of-thought text. It is silent internal activity.
@bullbear_info vive la open source, vive freedom
@KrayeBaby yes, i agree
New Claude app strings suggest Anthropic is preparing to put Fable 5 behind a separate usage-credit system billed outside existing plans, with credits added only after identity verification. Anthropic previously said identity verification was unrelated to Fable and limited to f
Every day, I think I could not appreciate open source any more than I already do. And then something new happens, like ID verification, and I am simply glad that I can run increasingly better models locally as well.
@Grintorresser As long as OpenAI wont be foreced to also add verification id
